1 Check MBC Power Supply Voltage Stability
The MBC requires a stable 24V DC supply with less than 100mV ripple. Use an oscilloscope to measure the DC voltage at the MBC input terminals under load. Voltage sagging below 22V or ripple exceeding 500mV indicates a failing power supply. The MBC power supply electrolytic capacitors degrade after 6-8 years of continuous operation — this is the single most common cause of intermittent E7 alarms. Replace the power supply if ripple exceeds specification.
2 Inspect MBC Cooling Fan & Heatsink
The MBC power electronics (IGBTs driving the bearing coils) generate significant heat. A failed cooling fan or dust-clogged heatsink causes the MBC to overheat and shut down as a self-protection measure. The MBC logs an over-temperature event before shutdown — check the event log via the MicroTech service port. Clean the heatsink fins with compressed air and verify the cooling fan rotates freely at startup.
3 Check Backup Bearing Condition
Backup bearings are dry-lubricated angular contact bearings that support the rotor only during levitation loss and coast-down. Each E7 event causes measurable wear on the backup bearings — they are designed for approximately 10-15 touchdowns over the compressor's service life. After 5+ E7 events, the backup bearings should be inspected with a borescope. Visible wear or discoloration on the bearing races indicates the backup bearings have served their design life and must be replaced.
